About the Big Block Chevy Engine...
The big block Chevy engine is a family of large displacement motors manufactured by General motors beginning in the 1950's.
Car enthusiasts usually refer to this type of engine as simply "big block" which is meant to differentiate the engine from its smaller cousin, the Chevy small block.
Big blocks came in what are known as generation one which included the 348, 409, and 427 cubic inch versions and generation 2 which contain the 366, 396, 402, 427, 454, 502 and 572 engines.
The Chevy big block engine is popular with hot rodders and street car enthusiasts because of among other reasons one time plentiful availability and the ease of locating aftermarket parts.
